Question of the day
Question—- What’s the right way to ask a buyer for disposition/campaign performance data back — and what do you do when they say no? (This is applicable to data reactivation as well)
Answer —- Make it mandatory to work with you. Full stop.
We made this a requirement at our agency about two years ago (and eventually built our platform, Attribute, around it). The difference was night and day — better results for clients, way more consistency, upsells when accounts were performing, and the ability to catch why performance dipped before a client churned instead of after.
Here’s how you frame it to the client:
1. It’s your process. They’re not doing you a favor — this is simply how working with you works. Disposition data comes back once a week, minimum.
2. It completes the feedback loop. That data doesn’t just inform you and your media buyers — it goes back to the ad platforms through CAPI and custom audiences. Those signals are how the algorithm learns what a closed deal looks like instead of just a form fill. Without it, you’re optimizing blind.
3. Say the quiet part out loud. “You’re paying me for results. This data is required to get those results. If I can’t have it, you’re hindering my ability to deliver what you’re paying me for.”
Framed that way, you’re immediately the authority. You have standards. You’re a partner in the outcome — not a vendor who can be kept in the dark and blamed for the results.
And if a client still refuses? That’s a client who wants to tie your hands behind your back and hold you accountable anyway. That’s not a client you want
