Goalkeeper Gloves & Latex Allergy — Looking for Solutions for My Son
Hi everyone, I’m reaching out as a parent hoping to connect with others who might have faced something similar.
My son is a goalkeeper and absolutely loves the position, but he has developed a significant allergic reaction to latex—and as many of you know, most goalkeeper gloves contain latex. Every time he trains or plays with his gloves on, the skin on his hands (both the palm and the back), as well as his wrists, becomes red, irritated, bumpy, and itchy. It’s getting to the point where it affects his confidence and enjoyment of the game.
We’re trying to find practical solutions that still allow him to play safely and comfortably. I’d be really grateful for any advice or personal experience, especially regarding:
Latex-free goalkeeper gloves (brands, models, or materials you’ve tried)
Inner glove liners, wraps, or boxer-style hand wraps to create a protective barrier
Skin-safe alternatives or protective routines before/after training
Any long-term fixes or strategies that have worked for players with similar allergies
If anyone has been through this—whether as a player, a coach, or a parent—I’d love to hear what helped. My son is determined to stay in goal, and I’m determined to help him keep doing what he loves without harming his skin.
Thanks in advance for any insight or suggestions!
