This is a technique I talk through people through often, including my students where I work. i find that this time of year can be challenging for students as they are coming up to their exams. This technique an be used anywhere, is quick to learn and really does help you calm down and reset yourselves.
Firstly find a quiet place where you can relax and not be disturbed.
1. Begin by either sitting or lying down.
2.Close your eyes and start to focus on your breathing, it may be difficult at first but perceiver.
3. Concentrate on breathing in and out , slowly using a regular rhythm. Don't rush and find your own natural rhythm.
4.As you breathe in gently, imagine you are filling a balloon with air. You may notice that your stomach moves in slightly.
5.Now breath out gently through your mouth, letting the air out gently and smoothly. When you do this, imagine you are letting go of all your tension and notice the movement of your stomach as it moves out.
6.To help focus your mind, count as you breathe in and out, breathing in for 3 counts and then out for 3 counts.
7.Repeat this and continue to do so until you start to feel calmer. If you have the time and space, repeat the exercise for 4 to 5 minutes.
