The Hong Kong government is developing its own ChatGPT-style AI tool after OpenAI blocked access to its model in the region.
The new tool, called the "document editing co-pilot application for civil servants", is being built by the Hong Kong Generative AI Research and Development Centre.
While initially intended for official government use, the authorities plan to eventually make the system available to the public. The government developed this home-grown solution due to the difficulty of getting major tech companies to subsidise such projects in Hong Kong.
