Handling Resistance
Not every player will buy in immediately.
That doesn’t mean the culture isn’t working.
In fact, resistance often reveals that the standard is finally becoming real.
Because the moment accountability increases…comfort gets challenged.
Some players will resist:
• Structure
• Discipline
• Responsibility
• Correction
Why?
Because standards expose habits that excuses used to protect.
Here’s the mistake many coaches make:
They lower the standard to reduce the resistance.
But strong cultures aren’t built by negotiating expectations. They’re built through consistent leadership.
That doesn’t mean becoming harsh. It means becoming clear. Patient with people. Firm on standards.
Over time, players begin to realize:
This isn’t temporary. This isn’t emotional. This is who we are.
And eventually, consistency earns trust.
Today’s reflection:
Where are you currently experiencing resistance in your program?
And are you responding with consistency… or frustration?
Drop one insight below.
Resistance is not always a sign to back off.
Sometimes it’s proof the culture is changing.
