Book Review: "Art + Faith" by Mokoto Fujimura
Hey I'm Kathleen. I'm a visual artist. TJ asked me to share my review of the book "Art + Faith" by Mokoto Fujimura. The very short version: Fujimura makes a strong case for how art is worth engaging with, especially for the believer. Christians artists have the unique ability to answer the questions the world is asking in a beautiful and creative way. However Fujimura also gets carried away in his metaphors and flirts with heresy. Some of the things he says are part of the artists role I think are very close to being unbiblical. Its a very thought provoking book and for someone further along in their faith and artistic journey its worth reading. For the long version where I give a summary of the entire book and go into a detailed criticism along with ministry application I have attached a pdf. I would love to hear the thoughts of anyone else who has read this book or any of Fujimura's other work!
The weirdest thing I learned in Marching Band… 🎶🤓
Did you know it’s actually easier to tune 200 piccolos than just 2? Crazy, right? It’s because of frequency cancelation when more instruments are playing the same pitch, inconsistencies blend together, and the dominant frequency stands out. The sound becomes fuller, more in tune, and more powerful. 🤯 Yes, this has a ton of practical uses like getting a cleaner vocal mix, cutting live feedback, and dialing in your audio production but I love this as an analogy for community. 🪈 A group of Christian creatives across different disciplines, at different stages, even continents! All moving together with one purpose: to steward our craft and character toward curating a culture for the Kingdom. So let’s take a second to do just that. Drop two things below ✌️ 🖼️Craft: What’s one resource (book, tool, course, video, hack) that has helped you in your creative work? Whether it’s business, content creation, songwriting, painting, podcasting, YouTube scripts, thumbnail design — anything that has leveled you up. 📖Character: What’s one thing the Lord is teaching you right now? Share a scripture or resource that’s been shaping your heart. Let’s learn from one another, grow together, and keep running the race. Drop yours below! 👇

Macbook Mic for audio book?!
// Stop Letting Tools Be Your Excuse - a reminder for me 🙃 I’ve heard it so many times — “I just don’t have the right tools.” “I’d start if my setup was better.” “I can’t create at the level I want with what I have.” I’ve said it too. But one of the most convicting things I’ve ever heard was this: “A poor tradesman blames his tools.” 😅 Oof. That hit me hard—because I’ve been there. But here’s the truth: Some of the most iconic works of art in history were made with what we’d now consider primitive tools. Whole albums recorded to tape. Speeches captured on wax cylinders. Stories passed down by word of mouth before they were ever written. I just finished editing an audiobook that was literally recorded on the onboard MacBook mic...wasn’t ideal. It wasn’t easy. But the end result? It was great. Because it’s not about perfection—it’s about persistence. So here’s your reminder: There is no barrier to making something that can bless others. What do you feel like is holding you back right now? Drop it in the comments so we can encourage each other and push forward together. Let’s get after it, fam. 💪
