Hey I'm Kathleen. I'm a visual artist. TJ asked me to share my review of the book "Art + Faith" by Mokoto Fujimura.
The very short version: Fujimura makes a strong case for how art is worth engaging with, especially for the believer. Christians artists have the unique ability to answer the questions the world is asking in a beautiful and creative way. However Fujimura also gets carried away in his metaphors and flirts with heresy. Some of the things he says are part of the artists role I think are very close to being unbiblical. Its a very thought provoking book and for someone further along in their faith and artistic journey its worth reading.
For the long version where I give a summary of the entire book and go into a detailed criticism along with ministry application I have attached a pdf.
I would love to hear the thoughts of anyone else who has read this book or any of Fujimura's other work!
