Am I getting ahead of myself? You ever go through this?
I've been working on an anthology of my instrumental music (five volumes) since 2017. I successfully released the first volume, INTENSIFY, in 2018 accompanied by a fully staged movement concert (which you can watch here: https://youtu.be/eCat2j59UEM?si=HjcixoCcELp_xfkI ).
I've been (slowly) working on Volume 2, BRIGHTEN since then, but have only 5 of 12 songs from that volume released. (This style: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/38KU4GY9b2rzodCiyBCds7?si=f04c4f670d1f4e74 )
However, my creative mind wants to "jump ahead" (and change up the soundscape--avoid boredom?) and start finalizing some of the work from Volume 4, Enliven--my jazz/big band/swing/Latin volume. (songs like this: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/o3erezre99ylazs4n0ec3/SONGO-2017-REMIX-9-16-17.mp3?rlkey=t6fuvlregozfis01up5y46so0&dl=0 )
Nevermind volume 3, "Classify"--think opening theme to Downton Abbey, apparently. (A sample from that: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/wfxt1m40a7folemb8tcvs/01-Soliloquy-Orchestra.mp3?rlkey=sb9h2e7qwr86mq0qdde0m0vj2&dl=0 )
But I feel like if I "jump around" I won't "finish" what I started, and I'll lose the snowball effect of completion to roll into the next volume, especially since my time to freely work on any of this currently feels so restricted--and I'm working on multiple client projects, which uses a lot of my creative energy, or just energy in general.
You ever feel like this with your projects? How do you navigate this as well as have discipline to stay the course, whatever decision you make? Thoughts? (TIA)
