π° $800. Thatβs all I paid for this 2012 VW Passat 2.5 5-cylinder.
Took it for a test drive and 5 minutes in β π stuck in 1st gear. Wait it out, try again β this time it wonβt rev or move at all. Scanner comes out and throws two permanent codes back to back. (PS there was more codes)
β οΈ Transmission speed sensors β high AND low. Here we go.
π First thing I spotted before anything else β a damaged connector pin wire on the transmission harness. Right there I knew the transmission wasnβt getting a clean signal. That alone could explain everything. But I kept digging.
π© Dropped the pan and immediately β
π« Barely 3 quarts of burnt black fluid came out.
Pulled the valve body, got to the sensors and swapped both out. Repaired the connector pin. Fresh fluid in. Fired it up.
β
Shifted perfectly. No codes. No limp mode. Done.
π¨ Then came the cosmetics β
β Serious dent on the rear bumper? Epoxy. Blocked. Painted. Clear coated.
β Trunk lid scratched up? Same treatment.
β Interior, engine bay and a π€ filthy headliner? Deep cleaned top to bottom.
π΅ Total in β under $1,000
π£οΈ 160k miles. Running clean. Ready for its next owner.
The lesson? This car wasnβt broken. π It was neglected. Most people saw a transmission problem and walked. I saw a bad pin, dirty fluid and an opportunity.
Thatβs exactly what I teach inside this community. π₯
