๐ฐ $800. Thatโs all I paid for this 2012 VW Passat 2.5 5-cylinder.
Took it for a test drive and 5 minutes in โ ๐ stuck in 1st gear. Wait it out, try again โ this time it wonโt rev or move at all. Scanner comes out and throws two permanent codes back to back. (PS there was more codes)
โ ๏ธ Transmission speed sensors โ high AND low. Here we go.
๐ First thing I spotted before anything else โ a damaged connector pin wire on the transmission harness. Right there I knew the transmission wasnโt getting a clean signal. That alone could explain everything. But I kept digging.
๐ฉ Dropped the pan and immediately โ
๐ซ Barely 3 quarts of burnt black fluid came out.
Pulled the valve body, got to the sensors and swapped both out. Repaired the connector pin. Fresh fluid in. Fired it up.
โ
Shifted perfectly. No codes. No limp mode. Done.
๐จ Then came the cosmetics โ
โ Serious dent on the rear bumper? Epoxy. Blocked. Painted. Clear coated.
โ Trunk lid scratched up? Same treatment.
โ Interior, engine bay and a ๐ค filthy headliner? Deep cleaned top to bottom.
๐ต Total in โ under $1,000
๐ฃ๏ธ 160k miles. Running clean. Ready for its next owner.
The lesson? This car wasnโt broken. ๐ It was neglected. Most people saw a transmission problem and walked. I saw a bad pin, dirty fluid and an opportunity.
Thatโs exactly what I teach inside this community. ๐ฅ
