British Colony
Yup, that was us too....once upon a time!
Fiji became a British colony in 1874, when local chiefs ceded the islands to United Kingdom. This event is known as the Cession of Fiji. The British administered Fiji for nearly a century.
Today, Fiji’s colonial history still influences aspects of the country, including language (English as an official language), governance systems, education, and law.
