Restless Hearts
Most of us would know the line from St Augustine's Confessions well:
'Our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee'
It's one of those that really stands out the first time we hear it, but then we keep hearing it and it loses its sheen.
So let's polish it up! Because there's a mind-renewing truth about the Father and about ME/YOU in this classic.
🤯The truth it tells about God:
Despite being the Almighty, the Just Judge, and King of the Universe there is no safer, nor more comfortable place for us to rest than in the Presence of God.
🙋The truth it tells about me:
Despite my sins, wounds and imperfections, the fact that my heart cannot rest anywhere apart from in Him means it was designed to do that. Our Abba loves it when we act according to the way He designed us - remember that was whole problem in Eden!! I am living from my True Identity when I rest in Him, and I needn't fear stepping out of this place of abiding no matter what shadow of death I must walk through.
