FOMO (fear of missing out) isn’t just emotional. It’s biological.
Every time you see someone having fun, your brain releases dopamine - the chemical that spikes when you expect a reward, not when you actually get it.
That’s why adding something to your cart or saying “yes” to brunch feels so satisfying… even before it happens.
Your amygdala (fear center) hates exclusion. Back in ancient times, missing out could mean danger. Now it just means overspending on dinners, trips, or “limited-time offers.”
So, how do we fight the inevitable FOMO monster?
Pause and ask:
“Is this decision rooted in peace or pressure?”
Wait 24 hours if it’s pressure. Most “must-haves” lose their magic once dopamine settles.
Stillness rewires your brain, helping you move from impulse to intention - from anxiety to stewardship.
“Be still and know that I am God.” - Psalm 46:10
