Hi all.
My homily this morning started with this nugget:
The suffering we endure for the achievement of our goals is far less than the suffering of doing nothing and never getting the life we want.
We would do well to remember this: that idleness in the face of despair only prolongs the suffering and what’s more: it suffers without hope.
The virtue of hope serves a good life in the future. We will suffer a little in a good life’s pursuit, but that suffering is nothing compared to doing nothing and being unhappy forever.
Apply this logic to heaven… We don’t get to Heaven by doing nothing (or even the bare minimum). Eternal suffering is nothing compared to trying to live the good life with momentary sacrifices and sufferings.
It’s better we suffer a little now to gain the prize of heaven, than to do nothing now and suffer for eternity.
