You know that story about Matthew McConaughey calling his dad?
He told him,
Dad, I don't wanna go to law school,
I wanna go to film school.
And his dad just goes completely silent on the phone.
And Matthew starts sweating, you know,
he's waiting for his dad to say something,
he's waiting for the explosion,
he's waiting for the big disappointment.
And then his dad finally says something,
you're sure this is what you wanna do?
Matthew answers,
yes sir.
And then another pause...
a long one...
And Matthew again is just waiting on the phone,
thinking,
the worst will happen,
I'm telling you like,
fuck no,
I'm not paying for that,
that's a hobby,
that's not a real thing.
And then his dad says,
well, don't half-ass it.
And when I heard that,
I got goosebumps all over my fucking body,
because my parents never said anything like that.
They didn't believe in this,
they tried to stop me.
Now they support me,
but it's not the same,
because I already proved that I could do it.
I mean,
I love my parents, of course,
don't get me wrong,
and I'm sure they have the reasons.
I'm just recording this one for you
who had to believe in yourself
before everyone else did.
