What Kind of Writer Is ChatGPT?
You might need to sign up for a free subscription to The New Yorker to read the essay at the link I share below. But it's worth the effort if, like me, you've not quite figured out how Gen AI assists writing -- especially the elite writing we aspire to do here.
Cal Newport, the author, is fuzzy on how ChatGPT helps writers write as he weaves his way to his best, if still hazy, conclusion. The answer he finds doesn't fit into familiar boxes like "it's plagerism", or "it's not as good as a human".
Instead, he discovers that AI requires a whole new tagline to sort what it means to writing and writers.
