Fasting insulin. Most annual physicals check fasting glucose and HbA1c. Both important. But they only catch metabolic dysfunction AFTER it's advanced.
Fasting insulin catches it years earlier. When cells become insulin resistant, the pancreas compensates by producing MORE insulin. Glucose looks normal. HbA1c looks normal. But insulin is working overtime.
Optimal fasting insulin: 2-6 uIU/mL. Concerning: above 10. High: above 15.
Our Metabolic Health Panel includes fasting insulin alongside the standard markers. If you haven't checked yours recently, now's a good time.
