👷‍♂️ For the Licensed Electricians: Why DIYers Being Here Is Actually a Good Thing
Alright pros — this one’s for you.
You might be thinking:“Wait… homeowners and DIYers are in here too?”
Yes.
And before you reach for the “I’ve-seen-what-they-do-behind-drywall” stories 😅 — hear us out.
This community is not about replacing electricians.
It’s about creating better customers, safer homes, and easier service calls.
What Happens When Homeowners Know Nothing
You’ve seen it:
  • They flip every breaker repeatedly 🔁
  • Replace random parts hoping it fixes itself
  • Install the wrong breaker
  • Wire a 3-way switch like modern art 🎨
  • Call you only after the smell of melting insulation
Then the first 45 minutes of your job is just… education.
What Happens When They Learn the Basics:
Now imagine a different call.
“Hey — half the kitchen lost power. The breaker isn’t tripped, GFCI won’t reset, and I’m getting 120V on line but nothing on load.”
You just diagnosed half the problem before you left the driveway 🚚⚡
Educated customers:
  • Describe problems accurately
  • Stop doing unsafe repairs
  • Know when to stop
  • Respect the trade more
  • Call sooner (before the damage)
And yes… they also stop saying“it’ll just take 5 minutes, right?” 😂
This Also Helps the Trade
When people understand electrical work, they stop thinking:
“I watched a 7-minute video, so I can rewire my house.”
They start realizing:
“Oh… this is a profession.”
That builds respect for:
  • your time
  • your pricing
  • your expertise
You’re not losing work. You’re gaining better work.
Our Ground Rules:
We are not coaching homeowners through panel swaps, service upgrades, or risky repairs.
We teach:
  • safety
  • terminology
  • basic device replacement (when appropriate)
  • troubleshooting awareness
  • when to call a licensed electrician 📞
We actively encourage hiring professionals.
In other words — we’re helping them become the customer who:
  1. doesn’t make the situation worse
  2. trusts you
  3. understands the value of what you do
The Big Picture:
An informed public helps the entire trade.
Less dangerous DIY.
Fewer disaster calls.
More respect for electricians.
Better communication on job sites.
And maybe… just maybe… fewer calls that start with:
“So I was on my roof in the rain with an extension cord…” 🌧️⚡😬
Thanks for being here and for sharing your knowledge — seriously.
You’re helping raise the next generation of electricians and the next generation of good customers.
