When figuring out an Absolute Concept from a dream, we are delving into something very particular to create what could possibly be an Absolute Universal, something that the signifying word grasps onto. Our dreams invite us to think about ideas more carefully for both ourselves, as well as to benefit the others in our lives through a deeper understanding of an idea.
A recent concept that has come from my dreams has been "Exchange," and this came out of a repeating dream where the second dream was a lucid dream. The first dream had the theme of me giving money to a homeless man, but the amount was not even worth handing over, only twenty pence (GBP). He handed me back twenty Euro cents and a cave etching. My initial associative process involved me recollecting a story where my mom had been vacationing before I was born and received a cave drawing at the local rate instead of the tourist rate, and when the shop owner saw that her guide did this for her, the shop owner was upset at the unfair exchange. My mom was quite pleased with getting a deal on this cave etching!
The dream itself thinks of the economic disparity in the starkest way possible, not just class difference, but total destitution, and yet he gives me something back. I begin to see myself in this destitute state, the homeless person giving something back. Also, I think about how I project this onto others as well, and maybe at times feel upset at others for seeing themselves as destitute or having no resources when they really do in fact have resources that can lift them out of destitution.
In my second dream, the same dynamic occurs where I am given money by a homeless person, or inscribed by the destitute person as more destitute, projected upon as the real destitute one. I realize that this is just like my dream before I come to realize that in fact, I am still dreaming! I run over to somebody and I ask them, in my dream, what the dream means. That is to say, I ask my dream to interpret itself. My dream replies, "two sides of the same coin."
Now I am thinking entanglement. Exchange is not a clean transaction, but something forced by a quality of material being. A coin flip, a rotation, chance and a switch. What is the meaning of the exchange? Is it an equalizing? I think not, but it is a mode of mutual satisfaction amongst the differences of conditions. Maybe when an exchange is rejected and difference is insisted upon, this is the real crisis. The other will not even exchange, then what? Is it war when exchange fails? When no consensus about how to proceed is reached?
This makes me think of family dynamics as well as world politics, when people divide and fight, unable to find a mutual exchange or any sort of recognition. All that is left is amnity when exchange fails. Perhaps even when it is successful the feeling that one has a good position must be maintained, or we fall into spiritual destituion, until we can exchange our condition for another.
