Daily Work, Dec 2025, Week 4
(Dec 20) Plein-air yesterday in Bangkok. I can see the Nathan Fowkes' abstraction influence coming through! This experience makes me want to use a huge flat brush next time. The story. I had in mind was "Receiving the light of God". The bowl in full light under a canopy of trees was a perfect metaphor I think. I'm not sure if my intention comes through in the final painting. But it's close. And having a story in mind, definitely gave me a lot of guidance in simplifying all those little details :)
Check out the photo of the scene. How would you design/simplify this scene?
The painting on the easel is what I did on site, about 2 hours. I finished at home. The tonal comp sketch I also did when I got home because I knew the composition was not quite right and I needed to think through how to best design the picture to get the story and read I wanted.
