YouTube - How long should your video be?

The video should be as short or as long as it needs to be. Do not add extra things just to make it longer. Only make the video longer if you are giving more helpful or valuable information. If not, people might get bored and click away. That is not good. When people leave early, the YouTube system notices and may not show the video to more people.

If you do have lots of good things to share, then yes, a longer video can work well. Some people try to make videos that are over eight minutes. That is because once you are in the YouTube Partner Program, you can add ads into videos that are eight minutes or longer.

I know you did not ask about that, but it is good to know when thinking about video length.

Also, if you are doing a podcast, it is different. Podcasts are usually longer. People know that. They are okay with it. You can go off topic a little. It feels more like a talk with a friend. That is normal for podcast videos.
