🚨 THE CLINTONS JUST LANDED IN JAMAICA. WE NEED TO TALK.
Hurricane Melissa just hit. We’re vulnerable. We need resources and rebuilding.
This is EXACTLY when the pattern starts:
âś… Foreign contractors over Jamaican businesses
✅ “Economic development” that dismantles local agriculture
âś… Promises of jobs that never materialize
âś… Aid money that benefits everyone except the people who need it
âś… Photo ops instead of accountability
I don’t want Jamaican farmers displaced.
I don’t want our businesses locked out.
I don’t want foreign corporations profiting off our pain.
I don’t want Jamaica’s recovery to become someone else’s opportunity.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS FOR THE COMMUNITY:
đź’ What are you seeing/hearing about recovery efforts in Jamaica right now?
💭 How do we ensure Jamaican voices lead Jamaica’s recovery?
đź’ What accountability mechanisms should be in place for international aid?
đź’ Have you seen similar patterns in other Caribbean nations after disasters?
đź’ What can the diaspora do to support authentic, Jamaican-led recovery?
THE FRAMEWORK WE NEED: SYSTEMS THINKING + ANTICIPATORY THINKING
This is where our Future-Ready Framework comes in, fam.
SYSTEMS THINKING: Understanding how international aid, foreign investment, and disaster response are interconnected systems—and how they can be weaponized.
ANTICIPATORY THINKING: Recognizing patterns BEFORE they fully unfold so we can intervene early.
HOLDING PARADOX: Yes, Jamaica needs help. AND we need to be vigilant about whose interests that “help” actually serves.
OWNING YOUR ATTENTION: Where you focus determines what you see. If we’re not paying attention NOW, we’ll wake up to deals already made.
WHAT I’M ASKING FROM THIS COMMUNITY:
🎯 Stay alert. Watch what contracts get signed.
🎯 Ask questions. Who’s benefiting? Where’s the money going?
🎯 Amplify Jamaican voices. Share what people ON THE GROUND in Jamaica are saying.
🎯 Demand transparency. Every dollar. Every promise. Every contract.
🎯 Support Jamaican businesses. Make sure OUR people benefit from rebuilding OUR country.
I’M NOT BEING DRAMATIC. I’M BEING VIGILANT.
Because that’s what love requires.
Haiti is our Caribbean family. They paid the price. We have the opportunity to learn from their experience—or repeat it.
Full 10-minute podcast episode dropping today.
I’m following the money, examining the Caracol disaster, and laying out exactly why every Jamaican needs to be asking hard questions RIGHT NOW.
This is about protecting Caribbean sovereignty. This is about ensuring recovery benefits the people—not the profiteers.
DROP YOUR THOUGHTS BELOW 👇https://castpreview.page.link/ryPU
What are you hearing about Jamaica’s recovery? What questions should we be asking? What patterns are you seeing?
Let’s build this conversation. Our brothers and sisters in Haiti tried to warn us. It’s time we listen.
🌱 Planting seeds of awareness,
Shawna
P.S. If this post resonates, share it. Tag someone who needs to see this. Get it in front of Jamaican community leaders, business owners, and diaspora members. Silence is complicity when patterns are this clear.
