So You Want To “Find Yourself?”
Let’s start with the truth: there’s nothing to find. You’re already you — raw, unrefined, unfinished maybe, but undeniably you. The whole concept of ‘finding yourself’ is a lie people tell because they’re afraid of the real work: forging yourself.
If you want to be less angry, less snappy, less lost, you don’t go searching. You develop the skills, the habits, the awareness. You build the version of you who moves differently. Finding doesn’t create that. Discipline does.
The only things you lose in this so-called ‘finding yourself’ phase are the parts of you that never served your growth in the first place. Good. Let them go. They were dead weight.
And yes — growth will reveal new passions, new paths, new things that light you up. That’s the only real ‘finding’ there is. Not uncovering some mystical identity, but discovering abilities and interests that were previously locked behind fear, comfort, or inexperience.
Ask anyone who says they’re ‘finding themselves’ what they actually mean — you’ll get nothing but waffle. Because they don’t know. They’re waiting for life to hand them a personality.
So here’s the truth in four blows:
1: There’s nothing to find. You’re already yourself.
2: You build that self through discipline, courage, and deliberate growth.
3: Through that process, you uncover passions that comfort once kept buried.
4: Comfort is where we go to die. Trying new things is where we learn we can become anything. You are the one steering the ship. Act like it.
