There are three functional states we often cycle through:
- Safety / Social Engagement — calm, regulated, available to others
- Mobilized Activation — fight/flight energy
- Immobilization — freeze, shutdown, dissociation
None are “wrong.” They’re responses. Our goal isn’t to avoid certain states — it’s to expand our capacity to move between them with awareness.
