Oscar is an excellent online teacher of the art of composing. He shows us receipts and structures of great composers, presents weekly material and tasks that we can work on at our own pace. Equally important are Eva's film sessions and meeting fellow minded composers that generously help each other out. The Composer Studio is exactly what I was looking for, and it has helped me immensely! I’m writing more and better music, and I understand the process, rather than relying on creative intuition.

This Studio has given me an understanding of musical composition to such a degree that I am completing more compositions than I have ever done. With Oscar's score breakdowns and Eva's supportive and constructive guidance on film scores, I have become immensely more confident at writing my own work and being able to realize the music in my head that I have been hoping to capture. If you're looking for a community to help you compose the music you've always wanted to, this is it.

Oscar has created something really special here. His enthusiasm is infectious, and just as important is his kindness. His feedback shows what’s working and where you can grow without ever making you feel inadequate. I especially value how he bridges formal composition training with practical real-world writing, something I recognize from my own university, film and commissioned work. Eva Pekarova’s film-scoring teaching is excellent too. (Also, I’m just a regular student, not paid in any way).

This teaching is a true game changer. Of course I learned a lot of new technical skills but, while lots of past teachers convinced me I was a nice poor writer, Oscar, Eva, and this wonderful community of passionate enthusiasts, gave me back faith in what I am and what I can do. I wrote 6 pieces (30 min) this year, vs 3 (10 min) before this teaching. The quality of what I write also changed drastically : more complex even if less chaotic, more vivid and colourful, even in a darker style.

Before joining the studio I was composing only intermittently, finishing around one piece a year, but since joining I have completed 16 (half of these being film cues.) The live lessons, workflow, score breakdowns, and feedback from the coaches and fellow composers have all been immensely helpful in allowing me to write more quickly and complete more compositions. It really is wonderful to be part of a community and not be composing in isolation!
