What's point of collecting emails with membership questions?

The 3 membership questions are an incredible opportunity to get to know your incoming applicants, especially for the free group. Watching some people want to use that to collect emails, I am wondering:

Isn't it annoying to sign people up for an email list while still sending them blasts from Skool?
What's the logic and reason for collecting or not collecting emails?
Why doesn't Skool let you download all email addresses?
For people that are collecting emails, is it more of a hedge that if the Skool strategy doesn't work out, you can go back to newsletter/email marketing?
