Having someone ignore your feelings
as they watch you break,
standing close enough to see the tears
yet far enough to never care—
that is not loyalty.
Calling you names while you’re healing,
adding weight to wounds already bleeding,
mistaking cruelty for honesty,
and silence for strength—
that is not loyalty.
Loyalty listens when it’s uncomfortable.
It stays gentle when anger is easy.
It protects your name in rooms
you’re not in,
and your heart when you are.
Loyalty does not mock pain,
does not belittle growth,
does not turn love into a lesson
you had to survive.
If it costs you your peace,
your voice,
your worth—
it was never loyalty. 💗
