Tuesday’s Yarn/Knitting Fact
Wool has natural UV protection
Not only does wool absorb moisture, but it also absorbs harmful UV rays! The amount of UV protection depends on how dense the fiber is and how it was processed, but the Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) of wool is typically between 20 and 50. For comparison, the average UPF of a cotton shirt is about 10. As it absorbs radiation across the entire UV spectrum, wool is a great fibre of choice to be protected from the sun.
