The meaning comes from homophones (words that sound similar) and Chinese wordplay:
- The word "Smooth" (溜 - liù): In Chinese, the word liù means smooth, slick, or highly skilled.
- The Number "6" (六 - liù): Because the number 6 sounds exactly like the word for "smooth," Chinese netizens started using "6" as a shortcut to praise someone for doing something smoothly or skillfully.
- Triple the Number, Triple the Praise: Repeating it three times (666) just amplifies the feeling—similar to saying "cool, cool, cool!" or "pro level!"
