Opus 5 Can Print
Opus 5 shipped today. Half the price of Anthropic’s top-tier model, matching it on most real work.
I’ll get to why that matters. First, something smaller.
Yesterday I gave it [THE ACTUAL TASK]. Something I’d normally block out half a day for. It came back in twenty minutes and the output was better than what I’d have shipped tired at 11pm.
Not an “AI will replace all jobs” moment. A boring, specific, Tuesday-afternoon one. The gap between “I have an idea” and “the idea exists” just collapsed, and most people are still using this thing like a search bar.
That’s why today matters. The whole game is no longer which model is strongest it’s which task goes where. Route wrong and you pay double for work that didn’t need it.
Every comparison article ranking right now was written before Opus 5 existed. A few still claim it was never released. So I redrew the map: which tasks land on which model, what the benchmarks actually say, and the one factor that decides it for anyone under an NDA that nobody’s putting in a thumbnail.
What’s the highest leverage thing you’ve pointed it at this week? Genuinely curious half the value in here is seeing what other people are aiming it at, not what I think about it.
