Shepherds Pie
Who here makes shepherd's pie? I do, I do! It is a family favourite of ours that I learnt from a British guy years ago. I feel like the way we make it is somewhat unique, but everyone who's ever tried it loves it! From what I understand, shepherd's pie is usually made with lamb, and when it's made with beef, it's called a cottage pie, so technically I'm making cottage pie. Or is it because one has sliced potatoes and one has mashed potatoes? I have no idea!
Tomorrow I am going to visit my friend's father who lives in a retirement home. Normally, we go out to dinner, but I have been tasked with the duty of checking out his suits for his grandson's upcoming wedding to see if he has something appropriate to wear! Instead of going out to dinner, I will bring dinner to his place and check out the fashion show. Billy's a trooper; he always comes with me, and we really genuinely enjoy spending time with the old fart! (His daughters are well aware of the fact that I call him that, and it's a term of endearment, I promise you. )
Bringing a hot meal to someone's home and sharing it with them when there are special circumstances is a beautiful way to spend time and connect with someone whose circumstances are more difficult than yours at the moment.
Oh, and I almost forgot to tell you... tomorrow I will be doing cooking class, creating shepherd's pie!
When was the last time you took food to someone else? What was occasion?
