Training
The other day I was sitting with my six-year-old working on her harp lesson trying to figure out how best to help her practice this new skill. Our strategy at the time was to play through the entire song. Then it clicked that we would go through the song and then have to start over because nothing stuck. I realized we needed to focus note by note. Meaning we played one note several times and then add on another note and then play the two notes several times and so on. I'd give positive reinforcement quickly and often. This way of practicing retained more information and more quickly. The next day we would go back to practicing and she had retained the information from the day before.
Tell us about a time when you unlocked how to train/practice/or teach.
