Survival Mode Check
Survival Mode Check (30 Seconds)
Before you scroll…
Notice your body.
• Are your shoulders slightly lifted?
• Is your jaw tight?
• Is your breathing shallow?
• Does your chest feel subtly braced?
If yes — you’re not “stressed.”
You’re activated.
Most nurses don’t realize they stay mildly in fight-or-flight all day — and then call it personality, burnout, or exhaustion.
Here’s a 20-second interrupt:
  1. Let your tongue rest heavy in the bottom of your mouth.
  2. Unclench your jaw (lips together, teeth apart).
  3. Slow inhale through your nose for 4.
  4. Long exhale through your mouth for 6.
  5. Drop your shoulders one inch.
That’s not relaxation.
That’s nervous system downshifting.
Practice this 3 times today — especially before report or driving home.
Training > hoping you feel better.
This is how we retrain survival mode.
