Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to addicts and practice these principles in all our affairs.”
Step 12 is where recovery comes full circle. We came into recovery looking for help, hope, and a way out. Now, we have the opportunity to give back what was freely given to us.
Carrying the message doesn’t mean having all the answers. It means sharing our experience, strength, and hope with others who are struggling. Sometimes it’s sponsoring someone, speaking at a meeting, reaching out to a newcomer, or simply being an example of what recovery can look like one day at a time.
Practicing these principles in all our affairs means taking what we’ve learned and applying it everywhere—at home, at work, in relationships, and in our communities. Recovery isn’t just something we do at meetings; it’s a way of life.
The greatest gift of recovery is not only staying clean ourselves but helping others discover that freedom is possible too.
