October Madness
Oct Madness
After missing all of last season because of non archery rotator cuff surgery I was able to take an Antelope in September and hunt whitetails in October. I was only out 3 times in September when a Dr. told me I needed to have a surgery on some skin cancer. That's not too bad I thought until after the surgery I was told no pulling a bow for 2 weeks. The weeks went by and October 20 th I was back in the woods in Iowa. My first set found me rattling in 5 bucks all at the same time....exciting! It slowed down after that and very, very windy. The afternoon of the 24th I was in MN sitting in a tree near my home where I had a large 8 pt come into 12 yds. I passed on him but later thought better of it. The afternoon of the 29th I got back into the same stand and 15 minutes later saw a, buck walking by at about 35 yds. 35 yds is stretching my preferred shooting distance so I grunted at him , he stopped looking my and started walking again, I grunted again and this time he stopped, turned and came right at me. I let him come to 15yds where he turned and I shot hitting him right in the mid body. The arrow was buried to the fletch as him ran off. I replayed the shoot through my mind several times and decided to wait over night to trail him. With a friend I returned the next morning and we found him 350 yds away. The shot wasn't perfect as It was gut's but caught the artery right under the spine. He is a nice 8 pt buck weighing in at 200lbs, my equipment is a Bear T/D 50lbs with Steelforce broad head.
