I simultaneously sampled both Boss Bottled Elixir and Boss Bottled Absolu before I decided to go with the Elixir. They're very similar but the Elixir came off as more mature and less sweety vs the Absolut. I like the DNAs and but getting them both wasn't going to happen. They were too close for me (and that's coming from a guy that owns, Amouage Interlude, Interlude 53 and Black Iris - examples upon request.) Maybe I'm a snob and the idea of doubling up on a couple of very similar designer frags didn't sit well with me.
Back to my SOTE: I understand that Asad Elixir is supposed to be "inspired by" BBA and the reviews were quite impressive. So for $37, why not give it a try, and it arrived today. My general rule is that anything from Lattafa only gets better with maceration so my expectations were not high. Long story less long... This is a wonderful frag from the first spray and yes, I expect it to get even better with time. I think the quality of the ingredients is really impressive, especially when I compare it side-by-side with my BBE.
This frag goes beyond simply being a "clone" and stands on its own as a powerful, versatile scent, offering a great value. The first spray is intensely spicy with pink pepper. It's earthy with a leathery note, but there is a citrus note that prevents the opening from becoming too heavy. Then it dries down to a very nice, smoky frag with a beautiful tobacco note and woody aroma. LOL! It's REALLY nice.
So to tie this in to the discussion posted by , without regard to the cost, I would give BBA an 8.25 / 10.00 and
Asad Elixir 8.75/ 10.00.
