Will the USA build a strategic Bitcoin reserve?

Senator Cynthia Lummis posted on X yesterday that she wants to build a strategic Bitcoin reserve.

She put forward a bill to buy 200,000 BTC per year over the next 5 years.

That's 1 million BTC, ie. almost 5% of the total Bitcoin that'll ever be mined.

At today's prices it would be $76bn!

USA's already the single largest country holding BTC with over 207,000 BTC, with China right behind at 194,000 BTC.

This is a huge move and if it were to be enacted, would begin a race for other nations to buy up BTC too.
