The First Step
The First Step.
We often say, I cannot,
Before we even try,
Yet many doors in life remain
Unopened by the shy.
We reach a place, then look behind,
And wish we had done more.
But learning is an endless well,
Not something we can store.
The world is rarely wrong itself,
Our sight just bends its view,
A mountain may seem far away
Until we walk it through.
At times we laugh at quiet truths
And call wise voices strange,
Yet even those with finest words
Can fail when moments change.
If cold, we move- we make our warmth,
Our effort lights a spark.
And actions a lantern right
Within a doubting dark.
Stay calm when storms begin to rise,
Let hurried thoughts grow still,
For patience often solves the knots
That force alone never will,
So start with one small step forward
Let hope be what we chose,
The only certain way to fail
Is fearing you may lose.
Try first. Believe. Continue on.
Let steady courage grow,
For life rewards the ones who act
Fat more than those who know.
