Whether youâve tried sewing before or youâre starting from scratch, this round of Sewing 101 is meant to feel really simple - not like climbing a mountain in flipflops.
A lot of you have said things like:
- âWhy does sewing take so long?â
- âI get overwhelmed before I even start.â
- âOther people sew all the time⌠how?!â
If that sounds familiar, youâre in exactly the right place.
Iâve taught this course many times, and this round Iâll be tweaking it as we go to make it even simpler. If you co to the Sewing 101 course in the classroom, youâll see a lot of extra info: stitch practice sheets, bonus lessons, etc. You can use any of that if it helps you feel confident, but you donât need to start there. My 7-year-old learned to sew without naming a single stitch first!
đ How this will work:
- Iâll post here in the group every 3 days with the next step.
- Youâll also get the post by email if you have notifications on in Skool.
- Each step will have one clear task so you know exactly what to do.
đ HOMEWORK and CHECK INS:
I encourage you to post your progress and do the 'homework'. The first post feels awkward, but after that it keeps you motivated. More importantly - sharing your progress encourages someone who just needs a little nudge to actually get started.

Day 1: Get your machine ready
The biggest difference between âI sew oftenâ and âsewing feels impossible to get time forâ is this:
Is your sewing machine packed away, or ready to use?
â Your task today has two parts:
1ď¸âŁ Give your sewing machine a spot.
It does NOT need to be a sewing room. Members have set up:
- on a desk,
- a dining table corner,
- even inside an unused shower!
You just need:
- a flat surface,
- a plug point,
- and ideally your machine not boxed up and buried.
If it truly canât stay out all the time, make it a grab-and-sew spot, like an easy to reach shelf.
2ď¸âŁ Get your machine itself ready.
Here's what to do:

âď¸ Want to check what tools you have?
If youâd like to take stock of your basic supplies, Iâve added the Sewing Tools Checklist PDF. It explains what each tool is for, so you can see what you already have and what you might still need. You donât have to rush out and buy anything â itâs just there if it helps you feel more prepared.

đ¸ Your homework:
In a NEW post (not in the comments here) post a photo of your sewing machine.
It doesnât need to look perfect. Youâre allowed a little sewing corner in your own home.
Letâs go â canât wait to see where your machine lives!
