It’s Day 2 of our Apron Sew-Along, and today’s task is simple but important: gather your supplies!
Here’s what you’ll need:
Fabric: Think about the purpose of your apron.
- For cooking → choose cotton, poly-cotton, canvas, or denim (these wash well and hold up to heat).
- For art or messy play → a coated cotton, duck cloth, or waterproof fabric works beautifully.
- For kids → busy patterns help hide stains, and contrasting fabrics look extra fun.
Lining: If you’re making a reversible apron, avoid pairing two very thick fabrics (like vinyl + denim) — keep one layer lighter.
- Elastic: For the neckband — it makes the apron easy to pull on and off. (1" or 2.5cm wide is what I find works best)
👉 Tip: Wash and dry your fabric before you cut it. That way both fabrics shrink evenly, and your apron won’t twist or pucker after its first wash.
>> If your fabric frays easily, zigzag or overlock the raw edges before pre-washing.
📍SEW-ALONG CHECK-IN
Once you’ve gathered your fabric, elastic, and any extras, snap a quick photo and share it in the group. We’d love to see what fabrics you’ve chosen! 🌸
