Saint Louis de Montfort, great Doctor of Marian devotion, teaches that Our Lady grew exponentially in sanctifying grace every moment of her life, even in the most monotonous and dull situations. This continual growth in grace, Saint Louis teaches, was the fruit of Mary’s unstained purity of intention. This purity of intention is what made Our Lady to be so faithful in her little duties at Nazareth, and so gloriously courageous at Calvary.
Let us learn, then, from Our Lady to have purity of intention; it will keep us going. Saint Francis de Sales says that love lightens the severity and bitterness of mortification. And what is purity of intention but to do all things for the Love of God? This intention will make our resolutions firmer and the fruits of our labors richer.
Say often to yourself, “If I am to love God as He deserves and become a Saint, I must conquer myself”. I have found this to be very helpful for me, I hope it will help you.
