Lately I’ve been reminding myself that books aren’t completed all at once.
They’re finished one chapter at a time.
When I’m in the middle of a project, it’s easy to look at everything that’s left to do and feel like I’m barely making progress. But then I finish a chapter, and I remember that every completed chapter is one less chapter standing between me and a finished book.
I don’t have to finish the whole book today.
I just have to write the chapter that’s in front of me.
Those chapters slowly become a manuscript. That manuscript becomes a published book. Then, almost without noticing, it’s time to begin the next journey.
Breaking a big goal into smaller milestones has changed the way I work. Instead of chasing the finish line every day, I celebrate each completed chapter because I know it’s moving me forward.
I’d love to know how you approach your writing.
Do you focus on finishing one chapter at a time, or do you keep the entire book in mind while you write?
