The Two Minerals Depleted in Nearly Every Hyperactive Child
Most children presenting with hyperactivity, poor focus, and emotional dysregulation are deficient in two minerals: magnesium and zinc.
Here's why it matters neurologically: magnesium and zinc both act as gatekeepers on a receptor called the NMDA receptor — the calcium channel in the brain that regulates excitatory neurotransmitter activity.
When magnesium and zinc are low, that gate loses its regulation. The brain gets over-excited. Every sensory input hits harder. Focus collapses. Information floods in but can't consolidate — which is why these kids often have both hyperactivity and poor memory. They're taking in too much and hardwiring none of it.
Giving a stimulant medication to an over-excited, under-regulated nervous system isn't treating the problem. It's forcing a depleted system to run even faster.
The question that doesn't get asked often enough: why are these kids depleted in the first place? Diet, gut absorption, stress load, and soil mineral depletion are all in the conversation — and none of them are on a prescription pad.
Also note, that if you have been using manesium supplementation for you or your child for over 3 months and you haven't seen a change, then its time to look beyond the magnesium.
