“MJ, why does my dog pull harder when I pull back?” 🚂
I get this question almost every single day. Your dog hits the end of the leash, you pull back to stop them, and they dig their paws in and pull even harder.
Are they just being stubborn? Nope. It’s science. It’s called the Opposition Reflex.
It is a biological instinct in dogs to push against pressure. When you put a harness on a dog, you are literally triggering their reflex to pull harder. You are training them to drag you.
We have to rewire that reflex. We have to teach them that pressure means “stop and look at me,” not “pull harder.”
👉 Action Step: Go watch Lesson 2.1 in the FREE Pack Member lessons right now. I break down exactly how this reflex works and why harnesses are secretly ruining your walks.
