3 Situations When You Should Not to Use AI
Because AI is easy and smart, you could end up wasting a lot of time building a solution that' s not needed or effective.
Here are 3 common situations when you should not use AI...
- Existing apps are widely available
- You're not proficient in the work
- Conditional logic is all that's needed
(1) AI vs Existing Apps -
It blows my mind when people try to use AI for design when Photoshop or Canva works.
Or for building websites when there are hundreds of other web builders and templates.
I've had sales people describe use cases for Ai to manage leads and they just needed a CRM.
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
MAKE SURE THERE'S NO EXISTING APP before you start looking to invent with AI.
(2) This of course leads us to the second point: You're Not Proficient -
If you've worked in a profession for 5 years or so, you most likely understand the best practices most common tools and even all the steps to execute the process.
From that perspective you can not only judge quality results better, you can also break down the steps and choose where AI might fit and where human perspective is needed.
IF YOU'RE NOT PROFICIENT... you best solution is to DELEGATE it to some who is. They can make decision and choose where AI could be helpful.
(3) Lastly, let's really understand where AI, especially generative AI excels -
Generative AI is predictive and creative.
If your use case is logic and based on finite solutions, you might just need a template and an automation or integration.
You don't need your system to "THINK"" if you have fixed rules.
Just have it follow the rules you've set, not generate an answer.
(I wrote an article about this earlier today. I spend hours trying to build an AI agent to solve a issue but it kept timing out. Kept hitting errors. Then I realized I could remove the AI and just use an automation and now it works every time)
