Welcome! Here's how to get started!
Good to have you here! Game Dev Cult is a community for making games, no matter where you are on your development journey. We are focused on 2D action games, Roguelikes, Bullet Hells etc, but all kinds of games are welcome here! Here you will get - Accountability - Consistency - Help and resources 💬 Write a quick Introduction on the Introductions page! Here are some prompts to help: - Where are you from - Your background - Your game dev goals - A game you’re working on, or one you’d like to make - Or even just what you've been playing lately This is a space for sharing progress, giving and receiving feedback, getting unstuck, and finding others on the same path, for people who write code all day and still want to make that game dev dream come true. We're just getting started, and I'm excited to build this with you. Don’t be shy, feel free to post anything! Questions, ideas, links, rants, dev logs, even rough prototypes; if it’s about game dev, it belongs here. -AJ

First Game!
Link: julius-otterbach.itch.io/robot-escape So this one was quite a struggle. I completely underestimated the time it would take to make such a project and also, I tried absorbing any piece it gave me just to then realise the series was unfinished. But: Core loop works. What I have: 3d 3rd person endless runner with jump, collectibles and speed up function (speed * 1% per second). What went well: • learned a ton • Once I got into coding, i didn’t wanna stop • understood some c# • Started to integrate game dev into my day What didn‘t go to well: • Had a 3 Day pause from last tutorial to this one • Followed very exactly • Underestimated the time it would take to follow up • didn’t keep the deadline, planned to reexpand the expansion, but managed to stop Looking forward to the next Project!
Hello All :)
Just a noob who started dabbling in all aspects of the gaming industry. I'm mainly just a game enjoyer but figured it might be time to learn a bit more about game development or at least some of the things and ways game devs think, the challenges they face, etc. So what better way than to join a community of game devs lol. Looking forward to connecting and learning from you all! 👋
New character unlocked!
Hi! I'm Ruxi, a self-taught artist from Romania, currently working on my portfolio to get hired as an artist in game dev. I'm mostly focused on creating assets for now, but I am also interested in writing and VA. If anyone wants to collaborate or needs help with some of these, let me know! I love working in teams, as it's easier to focus and stay on track than by myself. Most of my experience is in drawing 2D characters, but I'm also interested in learning some 3D modelling, Grease Pencil, UI design, pixel art and texture painting. I learn best by doing, so let me know if you wanna collab. My personal goal at the moment is to create concept art and assets for an action/combat game inspired by Romanian culture and traditional folklore. It's not something I've seen very often (Resident Evil Village is one of the more prominent examples at the moment), and I think there's potential for some cool stuff in there.
2 Weeks Progress!
I've been making this mining game roguelike for around 2 weeks now. It's starting to look pretty good and It's time to let my friend playtest it. I'll post some results on the playtest, and if I've learned anything from it. Here's a 25 second clip from the current state, I'm also editing the first dev log for it
