I have to be honest, when I am starting up a Teams or Zoom call, and I see the notetaker prompt, my heart drops a little. Not because I don't love the concept - I do, in fact, I use Pocket AI for my online and offline meetings. But I just know what once the meeting ends, I will receive a non stop run of emails asking me if I want a copy of the notes and to join and create a profile and am I really, really sure I don't want a subscription - and on it goes.
There are two issues that I think founders can take from the notetaker problem:
- Never blindly sign up for anything. Even if they say it is free, even if they say you can't access something without it. Many of the expenses that come out of a business can be down to buying something in the heat of the moment and then never quite getting round to cancelling it. There are ALWAYS other ways for you to get the information.
- I'm always telling founders to maintain the contact with a customer or a non-customer/lead - but know the limits to that. If someone has already declined your offer, offering to stay in touch can be a lovely touch to maintain some type of contact - but it can also be unwelcome and cause more friction, not less. Have a limit to the amount of times you will do outreach - and stick to it. As you grow in the marketplace and your get some name recognition, those who feel that you left on good terms will come back - and they don't need constant reminders that you are here.
And just to be clear for any of my clients - I have no issue at all with using notetakers if it helps you to remember what you promised to do from our sessions!
What do you think of the notetakers, and their attempts to get you to sign up?
