Are you asleep at the wheel?
Maybe it's actually helping with your productivity...
If you work from home, a recent survey reveals that one in ten British employees admit to catching some shut-eye on the job. This trend could mean up to 4.3 million workers across the UK are napping while they work, costing an estimated £500 million (€592 million) weekly in lost productivity, as reported by The Times.
However, could napping actually offer productivity benefits?
Studies suggest that short naps can indeed improve mood, boost memory retention and increase alertness, helping people focus better in meetings or while driving. Naps are also known to lift energy levels, providing relief from the afternoon slump, and foster creativity, which can be particularly beneficial when learning new skills.
That said, the length of a nap is key. For older adults, apparently naps exceeding an hour and a half may impair cognitive function, making it crucial to keep naps short to maximise their benefits.
So while excessive napping during work hours may disrupt productivity, well-timed, brief naps could be a smart strategy for a refreshed and more efficient workday.
You're welcome.
