AI and deepfake voices
Hi all
A listener to my podcast emailed and asked if I had 'given' my voice to Google AI? I replied that I hadn't and he sent me the link below.
He used Google's Notebook LM to summarise a document in the form of a podcast. The output is a roughly 10-minute audio conversation between two American-sounding AI voices talking about net income and the like.
Then, if you listen from 8:30 in, you'll hear the voices morph into one that sounds uncannily like me. I can only guess that Google is scraping audio and YouTube content and using it to build voice models.
It's damn clever (and a little bit flattering that Google has identified me as the voice of UK finance ;-) but it does beg the question about how tis could be used by bad actors.
