Unlocking Your Consistency For Fitness
In the video "It's Amazing That You Aren't Working Out" from Alex Hormozi, when I was selling weight loss memberships way back in the day, a lady would come sit down and say, "I haven't worked out in seven years, and I know I need to be going to the gym." I would say, "That's amazing!" They would just be shocked. "What do you mean?" I'd be like, "You're so consistent! So you already have the trait of consistency; we just have to flip it." They were like, "I never thought about it like that!" For me, I just wanted this person to believe they could do it. I think, to the same degree, it's like, well, if every day you didn't make 100 reach-outs, or you didn't create the piece of content that you wanted to, but up until that point, you’ve always been able to make a couple of coffee, sit down at the computer, rather than playing video games, it's counting the wins sometimes of losses that didn't happen.
You think consistency only applies to the negative. You can flip that mindset. Recognizing your ability to stick to something—even if it’s the wrong action—shows you can succeed.
In his insightful talk, Alex Hormozi underscores the power of consistency, urging listeners to recognize that they already possess the trait necessary for success; they merely need to channel it appropriately. By using the example of a woman who realized the importance of working out after seven years, he illustrates how shifting focus to small, consistent wins can transform one's approach to personal and professional goals. Hormozi encourages embracing the notion that success doesn’t have to be perfect but rather stems from sustained effort, making it a valuable perspective for anyone assessing habits that require change.
I invite you to reflect on how you can adapt your existing consistency toward more productive habits. Share your thoughts in 25 to 100 words in the comments below! Don’t forget to engage with your peers—reply to two comments and like three that resonate with you.
