Acceleration Sprint 1: Let’s discuss Digital Literacy
Topic: Understanding and using digital tools effectively in various contexts. Let’s discuss any topic on the above link.
@Digital Literacy I had an interesting experience recently with a local shop assistant. I asked if she had an online store, and she seemed to take it as a threat to her business. But my intention was the opposite. I genuinely wanted to help promote her shop and help her reach more customers.
She sells balloons, mostly to people passing by, but it was clear that foot traffic alone wasn’t enough to keep the business afloat. Most visitors left empty-handed, and her shelves didn’t offer enough variety to cater to different needs.
I suggested setting up an online store as a complement to her physical shop, not a replacement. Going online could help her tap into a wider market and boost her chances of success. Since her products aren’t proprietary, there’s no reason not to get in on the bigger opportunity. It’s not about replacing the brick-and-mortar store, it’s about expanding it.
We’ve got to start viewing digital tools as enhancers, not threats.
